Population by country in 2023 shows significant variations among different regions of the world, with some countries experiencing rapid growth, while others facing population decline. The top 10 countries by population, in descending order, are China, India, the United States, Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Russia, and Mexico. Together, these countries account for more than half of the world’s population.

As of 2023, India has surpassed China to become the most populous country, with over 1.426 billion people, while China is now ranked second with over 1.425 billion people. The United States remains in third place, with a population of approximately 339 million people. The remaining seven countries in the top 10 have populations ranging from around 223 million (Nigeria) to over 128 million (Mexico). The ranking of the top 10 countries by population is closely monitored and has significant implications for global economics, geopolitics, and social issues.
